East Boston - Strong defensive efforts and
great shooting were the story of the night, as both teams
defeated Excel Academy Thursday night in East Boston.
Karelyn Urena and Jhallyne each scored 6 points
in the 17-10 win for the Lady Spartans. Using a swarming
pressure defense, the Lady Spartans had a commanding first half
lead and only a few late baskets by Excel made it closer than it
appeared.
In game two, the Spartans played ferocious
defense, rebounded well, and got timely shooting to defeat Excel
for the second time this season 30-17. Joel Espinal
led the team with 11 points in limited minutes. Kevin
Cueto scored 7 points off the bench. Rowil Thomas and
Dalvis Martinez had great games in the middle for the night, and
Shamiel Brito continued his steady play at the point for CDCPS.
Both teams are back in action Friday night (Feb
5) starting at 4:30 against Marblehead. Games at Lawrence
Family Development Gym.
