Student Achievement

Students have shown repeated success on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS): 

  • In 2009, Grade 8 English students ranked first of all middle schools in the state.

  • In 2008, Grade 7 English students ranked first and grade 6 math students ranked second of all middle schools in the state.

  • In 2007, Grade 8 students ranked second in math and third in science of all middle schools in the state, and the Grade 8 Low Income science students ranked 1st of all middle schools in the state.

  • In 2006, Grade 7 math students ranked second of all middle schools in the state.

  • In 2005, Grade 6 and 8 math students ranked second of all middle schools in the state.

Student Body 2009-2010

  • 331 students in kindergarten – grade 8

  • 88.5% Hispanic, 8.8% White, 1.5% African American, and 1.2% Asian

  • 20.6% of students receive Special Education services

  • 79.4% of students have a first language other than English

  • 29.7% of students designated Limited English Proficient

  • 73.3% of students are from low-income homes, determined by qualification for free or reduced lunch

  • Student turnover less than 1% over several years (not including students who leave the geographic area)
