Tournament Notes
The
tournament will be played on six fields.
In the
morning (Games 1 and 2) the visiting teams will play against the
Amherst Middle School Intramural teams.
In the
afternoon (Games 3, 4, and 5) the visiting teams will play against
each other and against the Amherst Middle School Travel Team.
Due to the time and field limits, there will not be a 'championship
game' at the end of the tournament. There will be an SOTG award at
the end of the tournament, based on voting by all teams.
Visiting teams will play three or four games. All efforts will be
made to schedule games that are fair and competitive.

Spirit of the Game
Ultimate relies upon a spirit of sportsmanship that places the
responsibility for fair play on the player. Highly competitive play
is encouraged, but never at the expense of mutual respect among
players, adherence to the agreed upon rules of the game, or the
basic joy of play. Protection of these vital elements serves to
eliminate adverse conduct from the Ultimate field. Such actions as
taunting of opposing players, dangerous aggression, belligerent
intimidation, intentional fouling, or other “win-at-all-costs”
behavior are contrary to the spirit of the game and must be avoided
by all players.
(UPA Official Rules of Ultimate, version 10.1)
The Ultimate program at Community Day consists of a new
traveling team that plays against other open and co-ed
middle schools or rec. programs in New England and also an
intramural element for those younger players learning the
sport. At the start of each season, a great deal of emphasis
is placed on developing good sportsmanship and learning the
rules of the game. Players are also taught methods of
throwing and catching and are introduced to offensive and
defensive strategies.
